Duffy and 007?

Duffy is the latest artist rumoured to be taking on the theme tune for the new James Bond film “Quantum of Solace”. If true then a far better option than Amy Crackhouse would have ever been. With the negative image that comes with her does anyone seriously think that Crackhouse would have been allowed to associate with the world’s most successful film franchise? Even the darker image of 007 that is making a comeback with Daniel Craig has it’s limits and this would be way too much. Besides Crackhouse is a bloody lousy singer IMHO and her music would never sync properly with the exploits of James Bond.

Aimee Anne Duffy on the other hand is a far better prospect. Another great Welsh singer Shirley Bassey recorded 3 Bond themes over 15 years: “Goldfinger”, “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Moonraker”. The first of these remains one of the best, if not the best, of the theme songs. If Duffy was able to deliver something in this class then “Quantum of Solace” would be off to a very good start.

The first time I heard “Rockferry” and “Mercy” it was commented that Duffy would be ideal to do a Bond theme tune. Here’s hoping the observation is proved correct. Now here’s hoping that the other observation about her looking fine in a school uniform isn’t far behind…
