Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse has been found dead at her north London home. She was just 27 years old.

I’ll be honest and say that I never particularly cared for Amy Winehouse’s music and, perhaps unfairly, referred to her as “Amy Crackhouse”. The death of anyone at such a young age is a tragedy.

Despite rehab sessions she was never able to shake her demons in the form of addiction to drink and drugs. Human life is worth more than a company’s balance sheet. I feel that like so many musicians and other creative individuals before her, Amy Winehouse was let down by the organisations that profited from her talents. In this corporate world that we know find ourselves in money, money, money. and yet more money, has become the primary concern of life above and beyond happiness.

Like so many before her Amy Winehouse has died far too young with decades of experiences ahead of her. It’s to her credit that she tried to get help with her demons as best she could, and that’s an important lesson. No matter how bad things get in life there will always be someone left to help you no matter how much you’ve pissed on the world.

What a refreshing change to read something about Amy Winehouse that isn’t listing derogatory gravestone options and also recognises that drugs and alcohol were her demons due to a lack of support, rather than a life choice.
